The plight of female agricultural wageworkers in Morocco during the COVID-19 pandemic

While vaccination campaigns against COVID-19 were launched worldwide, a drama has been unfolding in the Moroccan countryside. It marked, over last couple of decades, by rapid agrarian transformation, manifestations which have included expanding irrigation frontiers and increasing growth high-value crops. These dynamics rely strongly on female agricultural wageworkers. Although they earn low wages, their income is crucial used to care for loved ones paying school fees, rent, electricity, medicines. workers, therefore, cannot afford quit jobs. However, most wageworkers Morocco are employed without contract or social security cover. working an informal environment living already precarious situation, little known about how pandemic affected them. In this article, we seek supply some information drawing authors’ commitment almost decade covering wage-workers’ experiences different regions Morocco. Additionally, since March 2020, conducted 30 phone interviews with laborers farmers Saiss coastal area Gharb Loukkos.
